Leeds-based three piece Everyday People have hit the perfect summer soul groove, albeit in autumn, with their new single Small Islands.
The song is a perfect showcase for lead singer Maeve Florsheim's sweet and sultry vocals, possessing the ability to take you back to those lazy carefree days we all are stuck reminiscing upon. The band are also impressively tight musically; both Jasper on keyboards/organ and Euan on guitars add their own little flourishes within the fine-tuned sound.
Small Islands wouldn't be out of place amongst some of the finest music to come out of Detroit, the fervent nature of the song reminding me of some of the best even before the existence of Motown. Being a big fan of this genre, it was a nice surprise getting this single to review, especially when Everyday People do it to such a high quality.
