ALLORA- CREATURE REVIEW

Words by Alice Mason

After forming in 2018, dark-pop band ALLORA have already played at several local venues including the iconic Key Club, Belgrave Music Hall, The Lending Room and the O2 Academy. With this comes a rapidly growing fanbase, some of which has been built from gig interaction alone.

Creature is the second single to be released by the band, after their well-received debut Burned back in May 2019.

The track follows a masterfully composed, swirling prelude with eerie harmonies. An enticing riff kicks off the single, one that echoes their previous release’s instant catchiness and begins with hauntingly beautiful leading vocals. This fresh off the block band have got their velvety harmonies on point, with their sound melting into a blissful listening experience that paradoxes the subject of toxicity in the song: “don’t know what I am to you… you’re cutting me in two, I don’t know why I play along with you”.

Creature abruptly ends with the despairing lyrics “oh but I just can’t lose you”, followed by a snapping silence, leaving you to reflect on the splendour of the track. The song is a goose bump-inducing listen, a trait that shows a band is doing their job right. They play their instruments with ease, leaving listeners anticipating ALLORA’s next move. Creature is gritty, it’s raw, and it is powerful.

Creature will be available on all major streaming platforms from 30th April, and is for fans of Wolf Alice, Nothing But Thieves and Black Honey.
